Turf Toe

Turf toe presents as pain at the base of the big toe, located at the ball of the foot. Generally it describes a sprain of the first metatarsophalangeal joint (George et al., 2014).

Common reasons:

The condition is caused from either jamming the toe, or pushing off repeatedly when running or jumping.  The most common complaint is pain at the base of the toe, but you may also have symptoms of stiffness and swelling.

Treatment:

PRICE principles should be applied to treat this injury and stable appropriate shoes are recommended as well.
